New York City & Brooklyn
In April, we traveled to Bushwick Inlet Park on the East River bank in Brooklyn New York for a soccer game. Since I was there for a soccer game, I had the Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon EF 100-400MM F/4.0-5.6L IS USM lens with me. Having arrived nearly an hour before game time, there was plenty of time to explore the park and I found there were many opportunities to use the 100-400MM's reach to capture the city and architecture around the park.
The afternoon was overcast and the sky had some interesting cloud formations, so I have been wanting to post-process the images in black and white, but I have not had the time. I've finally gotten around to post-processing them this past week. Using Adobe Photoshop and Macphun's Tonality CK, the RAW images were processed into black and white. For these, I started with Tonality and the Fuji Neopan PRO 1600 preset then began tweaking the image to my liking. After completing the black and white conversion, I created a layer in Photoshop to sharpen the image selectively. On the layer containing the sharpening, I then applied some Dodge and Burn to really emphasize the blacks and whites selectively and give the image a generous amount of contrast where I wanted it.
To get a large field of view and the depth of field of the Empire State building and the East River from the river bank with 100-400MM, the photo above of the Empire State building is a panorama image composed of about 5 separate images and stiched together in Photoshop. The more detailed images below relied on the reach of the 100-400MM to capture the unique features of the buildings in Brooklyn around the park.
Thanks for stopping by today!
