Male Northern Cardinal in falling snow
The first snow storm of 2019 rolled through the Capital District in New York during the Martin Luther King long holiday weekend and left behind approximately 15 inches of snow and bitter cold. On Sunday morning, I spent a couple hours with the Canon 7D Mark II and the EF 100-400MM F4.5-5.6L lens photographing the birds as they visited the recently stocked bird feeder.
While the typical Dark-Eyed Juncos and Black-Capped Chickadees were plentiful, a Starling and Chipping Sparrow also presented themselves in addition to the Northern Cardinals and House Finches.
This Winter I have setup a perch away from the bird feeder to provide a different view and background. As I had hoped, most of the birds use it as a temporary perch shuttling back and forth from the bird feeder as they collect feed, or avoid other birds.
The photos included in this post have been processed with Adobe Photoshop CC or Lightroom Classic for contrast, detail, and shadow. I have also been exploring Color Dodge & Burn with Photoshop on a select few images in the post.
Thanks for stopping by today!
