A pair of Pileated woodpeckers has inhabited the woods in our back yard for several years now. As someone who enjoys photographing birds I naturally endeavored to photograph the pair only to be thwarted at every attempt. With camera in hand I would set out after hearing the tell-tail sounds of their pecking only to be frustrated time and time again. I was always unable to get within 50 feet of the birds.

While photographing the hummingbirds from the previous post, this House Finch perched atop the bird feeder. I positioned myself to frame the bird with the purple branches of the Butterfly Bush and took a few images with the Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens handheld.

The other day while taking photos, I observed two hummingbirds chasing each other around the yard. Several times one of them had stopped no more than five feet in front of me and hovered for a few seconds before continuing on its way. As if taunting me, they just hung there until I began to bring the camera up, then they flew off.

The CPSC U12 Cobras traveled to Barboursville, West Virginia to compete in the US Youth Soccer Region I Championship July 1 - 5. Sunday July 3 the third game of the three game group round was played at the YMCA complex on Ohio Road on the Ohio River.
The Cobras' third opponent were the Continental FC Dortmund 03/04 from eastern Pennsylvania ... the 9th ranked U12 team in the nation!
