It has been dark and gloomy day in the Capital District. While working on the year-end clean-up of my Lightroom catalog I came across an image of some flowers in the mid-day Summer sun that I thought would work well as a background to one of my winter bird photos and add some color and warmth to the day. More Autumn in New York
The first weekend in November and the upstate New York foliage had peeked and was beginning to fade, so the last chance to get out and grab some photos. Unfortunately the afternoon was filled with rain showers and moments of breaking skies. Overall, it was an incredibly frustrating afternoon as I chased the rapidly shifting light. One moment a valley was vividly illuminated and by the time I pulled over to get a picture the light had passed and the scene was gloomy and dank. Oh well, that’s how it goes some times.

During our trip to Philly, we visited The Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia (no photos allowed). Not for the squeamish, the museum is a fascinating tour through the history of medicine in Philadelphia with a number of unique specimens and exhibits. The kids enjoyed it, so it couldn’t be too bad. We then walked over to the Eastern State Penitentiary for a self-guided tour of the world’s first “penitentiary” style prisons. The prison is a large complex that is partly restored and visitors have access to much of the grounds.
