Photographing flowers around the house one Summer afternoon after a rain storm. I find the Iris is an interesting flower with its flowing petals, detailed structure, and bright colors.

I broke out the Canon EF 135MM F/2L lens with the Canon 7D Mark II the other day to capture the Summer flowers. Having been almost exclusively shooting the EF100-400 F/4.0-5.6L IS USM lens this Spring and early Summer because of all the kids sports, it was refreshing (and challenging) to go back to using that extreme shallow depth of field that you can achieve with the 135MM lens.

A black and white conversion of a red lily in daylight
Photographed with the Canon 7D Mark II and a Canon EF 135MM F/2.0L lens during a bright sunny afternoon provided an opportunity to expose the flower on a dark background with spot metering. Using Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro II, I was further able to push the background into black and isolate the flower.
